For this lesson the students will be put into groups of 2. Each group will be given a type of severe weather (tornado, hurricane, snow, etc.) Each group will then research their weather type and present information on different things.
Anticipatory Set
To get this lesson started I will show the students different video clips of news reports for each type of sever weather.
Content
Each group of students will be given a severe weather type. Each group will research their weather and explain the following things
1. What causes it
2. What to expect
3. Safety precautions
4. How much damage it can do
Students are able to choose how they want to present to the class (has to be approved by teacher)
1. News report
2. PowerPoint
3. Pamphlet
4. Flyer
5. Poster.
6. etc...
Modeling
Students will have access to examples of previous student's work, and examples that I have created. There will be an example for each type of presentation and for each type of severe weather.
Check for Understanding
Although this project is mainly student based, the groups will have check point days, such as, rough draft due, information due, presentation draft due, and peer review day. I established these days because I want to be able the students are working, and are on the right track with their information and their presentation.
Individual Practice
This majority of this project will be done during class time! The groups will be working independently and each student will have their own role to work on. This assignment is to also help build team work.
Closure
All students will present their sever weather type to the class. The other groups will have to take notes on each type, except their own
Assessment
Each group will be graded on their completion of check point days, how well they work, and their final presentation. The groups will also evaluate their other group members. Based on the information presented by each group I will create a test, which is why the students will take notes during the others presentations.

I have also created a web quest for class over the Native American culture. Click the button to the right to view it.
